Toshiba Entering the Tablet Market

It comes as to no surprise that Toshiba is making their own tablet, and from what we have heard, it will come it two variations: one that runs Windows 7 (not Windows Phone 7) and another that will have Google’s Android (oddly enough, not Chrome).

Yes, as confusing as that sounds (because it would have made sense to see Android and WP7 or Win 7 and Chrome) that will be the user’s choices when they grab the Journ.e touch screen tablet. The device’s name is pronounced as journey and promises to deliver features that the Apple iPad cannot. In fact, the general marketing of the device is that it claims to be able to do the things which are not possible on the iPad.

Take the use of microSD cards for expanded memory. Most phones can do this, and modern netbooks come equipped with an SD card reader for similar functions. This however is not possible with the iPad, the same goes for viewing websites with Flash and for multitasking.

Of course, saying that it can do things beyond the scope of the iPad’s features would also mean that the Journ.e is able to do all the things that the iPad can –sadly, this is where the marketing pitch for the Toshiba tablet fails. Sure, both devices can handle media playback, run games, and browse the web.

But the iPad also comes with a long lasting battery that will keep it running for long periods of time (about ten hours on a full charge). This is what gives the iPad its versatility and usefulness as a tablet –being accessible.

The same cannot be said for the Journ.e, whose tablet is only good for about 3 and a half hours when connected to a WiFi network.
