It is very niche market for the tools which can be used for compressing and decompressing the data files. The market has two main players one is WinZip and other is RAR labs which has created software named as WinRar. The compression market is not limited to only zipping the files, it goes further in the media world where it has to provide the codecs so that movies and other items can further be compressed to accommodate the space on the devices. The UNIX boxes have better tools. The well used software is gzip which is used to compress the database files on the boxes. The generic mechanism of creating tar files is also well known. The market is looking ahead for the products which are easy to use and have better compression ratio. Probably, the sampling theorems can lend some support which would mean that the size of the files is going to small and yet it would be able to produce the original file without data loss.
