The corporate IT spending policies do affect the IT industry in real terms. Same way, the government needs to open its budget to sponsor the key projects which are developed by several vendors. The federal projects are good options for many companies because these projects are large and their is committed amount of money in them. In recent move, Technology Association of America made some move to lobby for better budge and increased spending on IT related projects. It is not clear if the move is successful or not. The government policies can be largely responsible for shaping IT industry. The government support is crucial and required to make the big moves. There have been many examples when a particular technology could not take off due to lack of support from government side. SUN had several projects which have the customers of likes of NASA and others. The economy is sound now and the budgets for IT can certainly be increased to meet growing demand of better services form government.
